Abiotic Factors

Oxisol Soil

Climate within the tropical rainforest biome is best described as humid and wet. The average annual temperature is above 20 degrees Celsius- specifically above 64 degrees Fahrenheit- which leaves its overall climate to a sustainable weather pattern and almost little to no frost or influx in temperature.  Precipitation in the rainforests is often in excess of 100 inches per year with a brief season comprising of reduced precipitation. As for the soil content located within this biome, the main form of soil is oxisol, which is deeply weathered and developed upon the rapid bacterial decay that prevents the accumulation of humus. The oxisol itself contains a high concentration of iron and aluminum oxides which gives the soil a bright red color and sometimes produces minable deposits.  In specifically younger soil substrates, particularly of volcanic origin, tropical soils prove to be fertile and successive in terms of plant growth.
